Last week's #MellowMetalSaturday featured a throw back to the glam metal hair bands of the 1980s. I am celebrating Women's History Month by featuring the the all-female 80s glam metal band, Vixen.
Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, Jan Kuehnemund formed an all-female band around 1971 while she was in high school. She moved her band to Los Angeles and reformed as Vixen in 1981. The “classic lineup” featured Kuehnemund, Janet Gardner, Roxy Petrucci, and Share Pederson. Although the band is still active, sadly, Kuehnemund died of cancer in 2013 at age 59.
The band had modest commercial success from 1987 to 1992 with a handful of songs breakin into the music industry charts in the United States. Their biggest hit was “Edge Of A Broken Heart.”

The all-female ‘80s glam metal band, Vixen, originally formed in 1974 by Jan Kuehnemund while she was in high school. After that incarnation broke up, she reformed the group in 1980 but the classic lineup that would become known as the “female Bon Jovi” didn’t come together until the mid-‘80s and featured Kuehnemund, Janet Gardner, Roxy Petrucci, and Share Pederson.
