He gave her guitar lessons when she was a kid, and by high school, she was Precious Metal’s lead guitarist. Now, she’s recognized as one of the Top 10 Female Guitarists by a popular guitar magazine. I'm not a fan of the lists of who's the best in any field, it's so subjective. Here's one rock guitarist that was missing on many recent lists of who's the best. For those of you not familiar with her name you may have already listened to the musical talents of Orianthi without knowing her name.
Born Orianthi Penny Panagaris on January 22, 1985, in Adelaide, Australia, Orianthi independently released her debut studio album, “Violet Journey” in 2005, producing and mixing the final product at her home studio. With the help of Carlos Santana, Orianthi relocated to Los Angeles, and signed with Geffen Records in late 2006.
Besides her solo work, Orianthi has been featured along with many famous artists. She was Carrie Underwood's lead guitarist in 2009. Orianthi was Michael Jackson's lead guitarist and was present at all rehearsals for his “This Is It” concerts before his death in 2009. She played and sang at Jackson's memorial in 2009.
Orianthi went on to become Alice Cooper's new guitarist in 2011 and did two world tours with Alice Cooper before splitting from him in 2014. In 2014, Orianthi joined Richie Sambora for his solo tour in Australia and Europe. In 2016, the two toured under the name RSO in Australia, South America and the UK.
This video, “Light It Up”, released in July 2022, is a song from Orianthi's fifth studio album “Rock Candy” released in October 2022.
